Balance

This past week has shown me I need to have balance in my life to be a good writer. I heard back from the editor assigned my three chapter submission. She asked for the complete manuscript to make a final decision.

I panicked. The manuscript isn't finished. Scrambling, I hurried to edit and transcribe everything I have written. Then I talked with a couple of published author friends. Their kind words helped slow me down and think things through.

My family has been warned finishing this book is a priority for me. However, I'm learning I can still work in time for them as well as make time to write. As of last night, I've finished the transcription. I'm at the pivotal point in the suspense and need to see it through and write the ending.

My panic is subsiding, but it hasn't gone away. Should it? No, but now I know that I will get it done, just at the predestined time, not my time.

Love is in the air

I'm an love thirsty romance reader. As well, I enjoy writing romance. Having birthday the day after Valentine's it's in my blood to thrive for love.
Life is meant to be lived by those breathless moments, not counting your breaths. It warms my heart to view those touching moments in the lives around me.
Sometimes when love surprises you all you can do is bask in the beauty of it no matter where it comes from.
My husband and I have been watching Survivor since the first episode. There has only been a few breathless romantic moments in the entire run of the show. Last night, I saw the beginning of a breathless moment between two people that never thought could be together.
One never knows what happens tomorrow, but it's great to see human nature, chemistry and the heart start to pull together to villain even for a breathless moment, if not more. Time will only tell.

rememberences

First of all I want to say how glad I am to have rejoined the group. This is a professional organization and one I am proud to be a member of. In the current time of belt tightening I consider my membership as an investment. As we are all writers we are mostly loners. Yet we carry our characters in our minds, thus never truly alone.
In the last meeting it was suggested that we do a profile of our characters. To me a simple profile is not enough. First note physical appearnace, any physical disablity, manner of walking, manner of speach. Then pretend your character is a member of a dating service and is trying to find a mate. What would the request be?
Then have the character apply for a job. What would the experiences be?
And finally have the character visit his/her doctor. What would the complaint be and how would the patient handle it?
Of course no one character should impart all this information in a book, but it gives the writer a formula of sorts to know the under laying factors of the character's behaviors.
Does any one in the group have another method of knowing the hero and heroine more completely? What works for me might not for you. To me that is the greatest thing about writing, there is no wrong way, simply what works or not.
